Metro Boomin On Breaking New Artists, Producing Future's Monster Mixtape, & More [Interview]

Posted by Juice God on

Grammy nominated producer Metro Boomin takes a moment with Hood Affairs to discuss what he has going on. For those of you who aren't familiar with Metro Boomin, he has produced tracks for Nicki Minaj, Jeremih, Future, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, Makonnen, Drake, Young Thug, Gucci Mane, OJ Da Juiceman, and Young Dolph

He says the Monster mixtape came about from him and Future trying to create music for the streets. The two were recording for Monster in late August and September. Future and Metro Boomin were trying to make a big impact with the mixtape. Metro discussed why he didn't make every beat on the Monster mixtape.

"It's not about that. I felt that would have been lame. Like even just playing the executive producer role and putting all your beats and shit on there you know what I'm saying? It's about what's gonna make the best project. This [Monster] is Future's first comeback tape since Astronaut Status. It felt like a lot of responsibility and it was. Even before I knew Future, I was a fan of his music so I know what the rest of his fans want to hear."

DJ Esco, Will A Fool, Nard and B, 808 Mafia, and DJ Spinz were also featured on the mixtape in addition to Metro Boomin. As a fan of Future's music, Metro Boomin knew what other fans were expecting and hoping for from Future. The two picked the "hardest songs" out of all the songs Future recorded with the project in mind.

He says it's easy to give beats to artists who are already popping. Metro says that it's apart of a producers legacy to bring new artists into the spotlight.

"It's nothing wrong with working with everybody that's hot. That's hard too. I'm doing that. I wanna do that. I'm gonna keep doing that. It's about both. You gotta also bring some new shit to light like that's part of your legacy. I grew up watching niggas like Puff (P. Diddy), JD (Jermaine Dupri), Timbaland... We can do that same shit."
